How long does a fit session last?
A standard bike fit lasts 2 to 3 hours depending on the level of adjustment necessary.
Can I bring more than one bike?
We currently have very limited capacity for multiple bike assessments within one standard session. Please contact us to discuss your requirements prior to booking if you have more than one bike that needs assessment.
How far in advance do I need to book?
It can vary depending on time of year. Typical lead time is 2-4 weeks, longer during our peak season of April to July, but you may be lucky if we have just had a cancellation so always worth a try.
What should I bring?
Cycling kit, bike shoes and a bike together with any bike specific risers, spare saddles or stems that you feel may help with adjustments. It is also a good idea to bring your race helmet so we can check if it provides optimal positioning.
What should I wear?
Tight fitting, lycra cycling or triathlon kit is ideal. To properly assess the riding position it is important to track various landmarks on the torso whilst pedalling.
How hard will I be exercising?
During the fit process we do not anticipate you doing any sustained effort. The studio is air conditioned to keep you at a controlled temperature. All of the fit analysis is done at an easy to moderate intensity.
Are there changing facilities?
Yes, there is a changing area and toilets at the studio. We do have facilities for showering but you should not expect to be working hard enough on the bike to need one!
Is there parking?
Parking at the studio is challenging. There is a side road (Park Road) next to the studio to allow for drop off of equipment but for longer parking there are RingGo app payment options up to 4 hours in St Stephen’s Gardens (3 mins walk) or 6.5 hours on Richmond Road next to Marble Hill Park (6 mins walk).
What is the closest Public Transport option?
The studio is a 7-8 minute walk from St. Margarets train station and a 10-15 minute walk from Richmond, both stations are on the main line from London Waterloo.
Where do I go on arrival?
The studio is located within the RC Custom shop at 371 Richmond Road. Please ring the doorbell on arrival.
How early should I arrive?
Promptness is always appreciated but there is no need to arrive early for the session as ample set up time is included in the booking. If you do happen to arrive earlier than 10 or 15 minutes before your appointment slot then there are plenty of great coffee shops on East Twickenham High Street.
What payment methods are there?
All usual forms of payment, including major credit and debit cards, are accepted.
What if I don’t have a bike or want to purchase a new bike?
We have a precision sizing jig and will fit you on that using exactly the same process as a standard fit. Following the session we can provide you with all the measurements you need to make an informed purchase. We can also help to source the perfect frame and build for you.
What if I need new products as a result of the fit session?
We have a range of items available for purchase including bars, stems, cleats, insoles, saddles and helmets. We are partnered with Richmond Cycles and their shop is close by if there are further items you require that we do not have in stock.
Do I need to bring any tools with me?
The studio is equipped with a full range of Park Tools allen keys, a precision torque wrench and all other necessary tools to adjust your bike.
What if I have to cancel or postpone?
If you could give us as much notice as possible so that we can endeavour to fill your time slot. Cancellation within 24 hours may be subject to a fee.
I am a member of a club, can I get a discount?
We have endeavoured to keep our prices to a minimum and remain competitive with other UK fitters offering a similar level of service and experience, therefore we are unable to offer any club discounts. From time to time we do offer seasonal discounts, follow our social channels for advance warning.
What software is used during the session?
In the Freespeed studio we use Dartfish tracking technology. Video captures from both sides, front and rear will be taken, analysed and appropriate adjustments made to your position. Knee tracking will be assessed and advice will be given on pedalling efficiency. On completion of the fit process, digital measurements of the bike will be captured and recorded. PDF files of all data together with before and after images will be emailed to you, usually within 24 hours of your fit session.
